Healthcare Assistant Apprentice

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare AssistantApprentices to work within the Intensive Care Department County Durham andDarlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post is to provide healthcare support to adedicated team in Intensive Care in accordancewith the Trusts policies and procedures whilst studying a Senior HealthcareSupport Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship. This post is based within Intensive Careat University Hospital of North Durham. Formal training sessions will be partof the Apprenticeship programme delivered in partnership with New

College Durham. Training will take place at New CollegeDurham or at one of County Durham and

Darlington NHS Foundation Trust premises. There is thepossibility for progression to the permanent

post of Health Care Assistant within CDDFT or Intensive careUnit.

Due to the nature of the training role, applicants must beover 18 years old to apply.

This opportunity is an apprenticeship and in order to accessan apprenticeship applicants must be a UK

Resident. A non-UK national is eligible to apply if theyhave been ordinarily resident in the UK and

Islands for at least the previous 3 years on thefirst day of their residency .

Main duties of the job

Healthcare Assistant Apprentices will receive appropriatetraining and guidance to undertake the full

range of duties which will include:

Understanding the role of HCSW and willingness to learn anddevelop both theoretical knowledge and

practical skills.

Under supervision, to deliver patient personal care,including washing, feeding, toileting and repositioning;

Monitor and record patient observations under direct nursingsupervison;

Assist in preparing equipment for procedures;

Ensure cleanliness of medical equipemnet as per infectioncontrol protocols;

Safely handle specimes( blood gases, urine) following CDDFTguidelines;

Actively participate in patient handovers to ensure seamlesscare delivery;

Support the registered nurse with internal transfers and forinterventional procedures;

Communicate effectively with patients, families respectingtheir dignity and confidentiality;

Monitor stock levels and ensure the availability ofessential supplies;

Report and document any incidents as per Trust guidelines;

Comply with all trust policies and procedures in relation toall aspects of practice;

To maintain confidentiality and safeguard any breacheas

Job responsibilities

To be able to work within the Multi-disciplinary Teamframework of nursing which may include Nurse

Specialists, Support Therapy Teams, liaising with otherservices and departments aiming to achieve the

best outcome for the patient.

To fully engage and participate in in service improvementand development initiatives.

General duties- keeping all areas of the department cleanand tidy adhering to the Trusts policy for

infection control for safe disposal of waste and sharps etc.

The ability to navigate around the Trusts I.T systems andcomplete all relevant training.

To maintain professional standards with reference toappearance , manner and punctuality

To attend all Trust mandatory and statutorytraining programmes
