Job description

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Work within the Inpatients Unit, looking after patients who are too unwell to be on the wings, including mental health patients.
  • Deliver various types of care across the unit - social care, end of life, palliative, personal care, etc.
  • Respond to emergency situations as required when working nights.
  • Support with PEG feeds, dressings, bloods, ECGs, etc.
  • Carry out risk assessments and care planning.
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required.
  • You will support the registered nurse in relation to the patient, following instructions and training received, whilst promoting safe patient care. You should be willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Wakefield, a Category A male prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

This role is vital within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care. It offers excellent development opportunities and a supportive environment to build on your experience and acquire new skills. The role is based within our Inpatients Unit, which has a capacity of 14, and involves physical, social, end of life, and palliative care. Hours are full-time, 37.5 hours per week, working shifts between Monday and Sunday, with 12-hour shifts (7am - 7:15pm / 7pm - 7:15am). It includes nights, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota, working around two weekends per month.

Salary: Up to £28,690 per annum, depending on experience.
