JOB TITLE:HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Nurse Lead (Clinical); Practice Manager (Administration)
RESPONSIBLE FOR: n/a
JOB PURPOSE:
Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Lead and Nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelinesand protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinicalteam in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Toperform venepuncture for patients
2. ECGRecording and uploading on patient records
3. Processingand management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses to ensurespecimens are ready for collection by the pathology service
4. Clearingand re-stocking consulting rooms
5. Preparingand maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patientcare interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minoroperations and coil clinics.
6. Followpractice protocols eg infection control, health and safety, clinical waste.
7. Maintainand order drugs, immunisations, instruments and clinical supplies includingstock rotation
8. Tocollect and send instruments to CSSD as per practice protocol.
9. Totake and record blood pressure readings (but not to interpret) as requestedby GPs/Nurses
10. Tomanage loan of blood pressure monitors to patients including loaning ofequipment, recall of equipment, audits, average readings, clean monitorsbefore loaning out.
11. Toundertake simple dressings under the supervision of qualified nursesfollowing local recommendations and using aseptic technique.
12. Assistingin the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well beingincluding undertaking height, weight and body massmeasurements,
13. Followingup of Long Term Condition patients within the annual reviews process,supported by the Nursing Team
14. Vaccine/coldchain storage, monitoring and recording
15. Undertakeaudits as required, (with assistance from nursing team) eg clinical wasteaudit
16. Toperform other clinical tasks as trained to meet the needs of the practice includingear syringing, spirometry.
17. Maintainconfidentiality of information relating to patients, relatives, staff and thepractice.

19. Recordinformation and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurateand timely fashion on EMIS Web including entering accurate Read/Sno-medcodes.
20. Administerinfluenza vaccinations and B12 injections under Practice protocols.
21. Worksafely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and PracticePolicy and Procedures.
