Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant at Shawbury Medical Practice, youwill support the clinical team in delivering safe, effective, and compassionatecare to our patients. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include a mix ofclinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth running of the practice.

You will carry out a range of clinical duties such as bloodpressure monitoring, ECGs, administering certain vaccinations, wound care andsupporting chronic disease management under the supervision of the nursingteam.

In addition to patient-facing tasks, you will be responsiblefor daily room checks to maintain clinical cleanliness and safety standards,carrying out regular cleaning of equipment and clinical areas, ordering medicalsupplies, and conducting stock takes to ensure everything is fully equipped andready for use.

You will be a key part of the team, playing a crucial rolein keeping the practice running smoothly and providing excellent care to ourpatients.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Carry out blood pressure monitoring and pulse checks
  • Record height, weight, BMI, and other basic observations
  • Undertake ECGs and urine testing
  • Carry out NHS Health Checks and support chronic disease management reviews
  • Administer specific vaccinations and B12 injections (following appropriate training and protocols)
  • Support wound care and dressings
  • Assist with minor procedures as required
  • Accurately record information and observations in the patient record using appropriate clinical systems
  • Conduct daily clinical room checks to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness
  • Clean and maintain clinical areas and equipment in line with infection control protocols
  • Support the implementation of infection prevention and control measures

Stock & Supplies

  • Carry out stock ordering for clinical rooms and treatment areas
  • Complete regular stock checks and ensure correct storage of medical supplies
  • Monitor expiry dates and maintain accurate stock levels

General

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the practice team
  • Participate in team meetings, audits, and training sessions
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Person Specification
Experience
  • Previous experience in a Health Care Assistant role
  • Confident in carrying out basic clinical procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • IT literate, with the ability to learn clinical systems
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working in a GP surgery or primary care setting
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web (or similar clinical system)
