Job summary

The Dean Neurological Centre in Gloucester is hiring a Healthcare Assistant to support patients with neurological conditions on a 12.5-hour shift pattern, 3-4 days per week, including nights and weekends. You will work with nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care and help patients progress on their recovery journey.

No previous healthcare experience is required, as training and development are provided.

  • Support patients with their day-to-day care needs, recovery goals and overall wellbeing.
  • Assist with personal care and daily living activities, promoting dignity, choice and independence at all times.
  • Participate in ward rounds and contribute to the delivery of person‑centred care.
  • Observe, monitor and respond to changes in patients' behaviours, needs and wellbeing.
  • Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of patients, including those with neurological conditions, communication difficulties and complex care needs.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality care.
  • Accurately maintain and update patient records and care documentation.
  • Provide emotional support, encouragement and reassurance to patients throughout their recovery journey.
  • Help create a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, compassion and resilience in a rewarding and sometimes challenging care setting.

Shift Pattern: 12.5‑hour shifts, working 3-4 days per week, including nights and weekends.

The Dean Neurological Centre has 60 beds, which is on the outskirts of the town within easy commute from Gloucester, Cheltenham with good transport links. The Centre delivers specialist 24‑hour nursing and therapy services for people with complex long-term neurological conditions who require ongoing support and assistance to maximise functional ability. It specialises in slow stream rehabilitation where the emphasis is placed on maximising each individual's abilities, comfort and quality of life. Bedrooms are fitted with high dependency equipment, including ceiling track hoists, wall mounted suction and oxygen equipment., with all rooms adapted to individual requirements. There are also well‑equipped therapy facilities and other facilities such as gardens, gym and minibus.
