Job description

The post holder, after the necessary training and induction, will take responsibility for the clinical and operational support and delivery of theatre services in the theatre department at Moorfields Eye South Unit at St George’s, upon training and achievement of the required competencies.

In addition, the post holder is responsible for assisting in the care of surgical patients during the peri-operative period by supporting the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining and procuring necessary stock for St. George’s and Queen Mary’s theatres.

The post holder will audit instruments, anaesthetic and surgical consumables, implants, and participate as a circulating person in the theatre team.

Clinical Duties Include
  1. Assisting in the preparation of the operating theatre.
  2. Assisting the surgical team during procedures as a theatre circulator.
  3. Maintaining stock levels and general upkeep of theatre supplies.
  4. Ensuring a safe environment that minimizes infection risk, promoting health and safety.
  5. Participating in team briefings, surgical safety checklists, and debriefs.
  6. Assisting qualified staff with patient transport to and from wards, theatres, and recovery.
  7. Moving and transferring patients safely, minimizing discomfort.
  8. Performing stock checks and procurement of consumables alongside qualified staff.
Operational Support Include
  1. Handling procurement and maintenance of stock levels.
  2. Using GENESIS system for scanning and inventory management.
  3. Supporting GALAXY Theatre System management.
  4. Ordering and maintaining supplies, implants, and instruments.
