Job description

We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic Health Care Assistant. This role would be part of a large, friendly, and supportive team. We are friendly and collaborative in our approach, aiming to be a happy, high-functioning team.

Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities will include the following unless otherwise advised and subject to the appropriate training:

  1. NHS Healthchecks
  2. Processing and management of laboratory samples and urine samples for urinalysis.
  3. Restocking of clinical equipment in the consulting rooms.
  4. Ordering of laboratory consumables.
  5. Control of the 24-hour blood pressure monitor. Contacting patients and arranging appointments for the above, downloading the information, distributing the results to the requesting GP, and maintenance of the monitor.
  6. Administering of Influenza vaccine, B12, and Pneumococcal vaccination as per PSD and in accordance with practice guidelines.
  7. Home visits for the housebound at the request of the GPs/nurses for phlebotomy and blood pressures.
  8. Reviews as per template and protocol when appropriate to be performed by HCA.
  9. Performing ECGs when requested by a GP.
  10. Redressing of wounds and wound care when deemed appropriate by a practice nurse.
  11. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
  12. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs relating to health and well-being.
  13. To enter data on the computer in the correct manner, using templates and codes as appropriate.

JOB TITLE: HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: SENIOR PRACTICE NURSE OR GP (Clinically), PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

Job Summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse/GP and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

They will work in accordance with the Code of conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. DoH Skills for Health / Skills for Care.

  6. Ordering and maintenance of health education leaflets and restocking waiting room of these items.
  7. Control of the 24-hour blood pressure monitor. Contacting patients and arranging appointments for the above, downloading the information, distributing the results to the requesting GP, and maintenance of the monitor.
  8. Administering of Influenza vaccine, B12, and Pneumococcal vaccination as per PSD and in accordance with practice guidelines.
