Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Leeds, a busy category B prison located in Leeds Centre. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. This role offers excellent developmental opportunities and is a great environment to build on your experience within the Substance Misuse Service.

Hours: This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, working a variety of shifts between Monday and Sunday. This role involves working weekends and nights.

Responsibilities:
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients care
  • Work from an appointment ledger, reviewing patients across the SMS service, including methadone, drug use and withdrawal
  • Carry out reception duties, reviewing new patients to the prison and assessing, including observations, urine samples etc
  • Support the SMS NMP team in delivering medication and care to our substance misuse patients.
  • Primarily work within the clinical substance misuse team, although may be required to carry out duties in the primary care team
  • Respond to emergency situations as necessary
Requirements:
  • Hold a NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare
  • Have experience in a care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting, experience within A&E would be beneficial
  • Any experience in substance misuse or mental health would be a bonus!
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach - we want someone who really cares about others, and wants to make a difference
