Qualifications

  • Experience in phlebotomy and ECG recording is essential.
  • Certification as a Healthcare Assistant preferred.

Job description

Job Summary

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

  1. New patient health checks
  2. ECG recording
  3. Phlebotomy
  4. INR clinics
  5. B12 & vacs
  6. Chaperoning duties
  7. Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  8. Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
  9. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  10. Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  11. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  12. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  13. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  14. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  15. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  16. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  17. To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
  18. Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the nurse manager
  19. Ensure sharps bins are ready for collection
  20. Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes
  21. Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded
  22. Attend and participate in practice meetings as required

We are a large rural GP practice based in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We look after around 34,000 patients and work from 7 different sites, you must also be willing to travel between sites as necessary.
