Job summary

Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) in London is seeking Health Care Assistants to provide person-centred support to residents with complex neuro-disabilities. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote dignity, independence and wellbeing in a compassionate environment.

The role involves assisting with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and communication, and may include ventilator care in a dedicated unit. A flexible, 24/7 roster is required to meet resident needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in person-centred care is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene tasks (washing, bathing, dressing, continence, mouth care) to promote independence.
• Support mobility including hoisting and use of mobility aids as part of daily care.
• Assist with eating/drinking, including feeding equipment and monitoring intake.
• Demonstrate proficient communication with patients and staff in challenging situations, including those with complex needs or behavioural changes.
• Participate in a 24/7 staff roster, including bank holidays, with flexible shift patterns.
• Support patients in ventilation units with invasive ventilation via tracheostomy when required.

We currently have exciting opportunities to join our Specialist Nursing Home wards at RHN as Health Care Assistants.

We provide high-quality, person-centred support tailored to each individuals needs, including complex clinical care, alongside assistance with communication, behavioural support, and daily living. Our focus is on promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life within a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. We also work closely with residents families, offering ongoing support, guidance, and reassurance.

You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with our residents to support all aspects of daily living, including personal care, while promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing.

1. 1. To assist patients with all aspects of their personal hygiene care which will include; washing, bathing, dressing, continence and mouth care whilst enabling them to be as independent with these tasks as possible.
2. 2. To assist with mobility including; hoisting, positioning and assisting with mobility aids.
3. 3. To support patients with eating and drinking tasks, which may include the use of adapted feeding equipment, recording of food and fluid intake and feeding patients with an impaired swallow function.
4. 4. Responsible for providing proficient communication with patients and others in challenging situations, which may include supporting patients with complex communication needs and patients who present with behavioural/emotional challenges as a result of their brain injury.
5. 5. To participate fully in a 24 hour, 7 day week staff roster, including working Bank Holidays, as required by the needs of the service. Shift patterns may vary and include split days off. A high degree of flexibility is required.
6. 6. If working in a ventilation unit assisting patients requiring complex invasive mechanical ventilation support via a tracheostomy tube.

This role requires a strong understanding of person-centred care, the ability to respond to complex health needs, and a compassionate and patient approach. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
