Job summary

Gateshead Health in the North East of England is seeking a Theatre Support Assistant to assist nursing staff during operations and maintain a sterile field. You will help provide safe patient care and ensure smooth operation lists, working as part of the theatre team to support patient safety.

The role involves effective communication with patients, relatives and staff, and ensuring barriers to understanding are overcome. Prior theatre exposure is advantageous.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths or equivalent literacy/numeracy level required.
• NVQ Level 2 in healthcare, or be working towards it.
• Theatre experience and knowledge of Theatre working desirable.

Responsibilities

• Communicates information to staff, patients, relatives and carers.
• Communicates empathetically where barriers exist (speech/language/hearing).
• Communicates with patients whose first language may not be English.
• Establish and maintain relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Assist nursing staff in providing care during operations.
• Support the Surgical team in maintaining a sterile field and equipment.

Job description

To assist the nursing staff in providing nursing support within the operating Theatre environment. Working as a team member to meet the needs of the patient during their surgery by maintaining the Theatre, sterile environment and equipment to ensure patient safety during their surgery and smooth running of operating lists.

Main duties of the job

To undertake personal care duties for patients in hospital.To support all members of the MDT to deliver high quality, safe patient care.To ensure a safe working environment.To assist the registered staff to care for patients.
