Job description

The post holder will offer general assistance to the practice clinical team, liaising closely with the Practice Nurse across Northfield Surgery and Field Road Surgery.

The post holder must hold a Health and Social Care Qualification such as the Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or 3. They should work well within teams, be organized, able to prioritize tasks, and willing to learn.

Main duties of the job

The HCA will be involved primarily in:

  • Assisting in the provision of a phlebotomy service
  • Managing laboratory samples for the Practice
  • Undertaking well person checks
  • Performing urinalysis
  • Recording ECGs
  • Cleaning and sterilising instruments and equipment
  • Maintaining equipment, including recording external checks such as calibration
  • Recording refrigerator temperatures daily
  • Ordering and re-stocking clinical supplies

The HCA will also be responsible for:

  • Documenting patient consultations in the clinical system
  • Maintaining records to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Participating in Practice development and service changes as needed
  • Handling administrative duties like appointment and financial record keeping
  • Maintaining current skills and undertaking necessary training
  • Participating in activities required by CQC registration

Job responsibilities

Support patients at all times, reducing anxiety where possible.

Provide phlebotomy services.

Manage laboratory samples, ensuring correct labeling, prompt sending, and data entry.

Maintain and clean equipment.

Restock clinical areas and maintain stock rotation.

Ensure adequate supplies and health promotion materials.

Handle information in compliance with GDPR.

Monitor refrigerator temperatures and maintain vaccine cold chain records.

Maintain health information notice boards aligned with health campaigns.

Attend relevant meetings and report safeguarding or compliance concerns immediately.
