We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly clinical team in Cheltenham caring for 19,300 patients over two sites. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the nursing team and will be respsonsible for participating in the delivery of high-quality patient care.
The successful candidate will support the practice clinical team in the delivery of nursing services, working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within the scope of their practice to the patient population. General duties include phlebotomy, BP checks, ECGs, healthy lifestyle support, long term condition support, INR checks, new patient health checks, wound care.
Weston House Practice is based in St Paul's Medical Centre with a branch surgery at Up Hatherley in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire caring for 19,300 patients across both sites. We are a team of 14 GPs and an extended clinical team of 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 5 Practice Nurses, 2 Nurse Associates, 3 HCAs and 2 Phlebotomists. We are part of a PCN based in St Paul's Medical Centre. The practice benefits from a multidisciplinary team of Clinical Pharmacists, First Contact Practitioners, Paramedics and Social Prescribers. We have a very good team ethos in the practice and work together to provide high quality care. Benefits include enrolment in the NHS pensions scheme and free on-site parking at both sites.
Undertake new patient health checks
Supportthe practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics includingvisiting housebound/care home patients
Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperatureand pulse rate, recording findings accurately
Facilitateroutine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
Undertakewound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
Stitch/staple removal
Carry out BMI checks as directed
Whentrained, undertake venepuncture
Whentrained, administer vaccinations
Whentrained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
Carryout ECGs as requested
Ensurespecimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
Providesupport during minor operations as required
Ensureall clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Ensurefridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
Ensureclinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced inaccordance with the practices IPC policy
Deliver opportunistic health promotionwhere appropriate
Visitinghousebound and care home patients as required.
