Job description

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they’re likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We are recruiting for a multiple Healthcare Assistant (HCA) vacancies within our Cornwall Hospice Care @ Home service. There are a few roles available across the area, which you can see more details on below, but all are part of our night-time service so will require someone who is comfortable with lone working. These night shifts will be waking nights and will require you to be awake throughout the night and each shift will be spent with one person in one home.

Hours: 22:00pm – 07:00am night shift (18, 27 or 36-hour contracts available)

Contract: Part-time Permanent

Salary: Band 2 £24,169 per annum, in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC) + enhancements and Marie Curie employee benefits package

Locations:

  • Central North and East Cornwall (you will work within a 25-mile radius from your home address)

As these are community-based roles, you will be responsible for planning your own work, responding to changes in patient conditions, prioritising care needs (including hygiene, nutrition and hydration, comfort, monitoring vitals, and more) as detailed in the personalised care plan and ensuring you escalate appropriately to senior staff within the multidisciplinary team in a timely manner.

What we’re looking for:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an equivalent
  • Hold a current and valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle which includes business insurance
  • Knowledge of palliative and end of life care.
  • Hold person centred conversations, Communicate sensitively with the person and those important to them in a nonjudgmental, empathetic, supportive, and professional manner.
  • Participate in the assessment, care planning, review and evaluation of holistic care management plans within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Undertake risk assessments to support safe delivery of care.

What's in it for you:

  • Annual leave allowance 27 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata)
  • Competitive Policy for parental/sick Leave
  • Industry leading training programmes
  • Season ticket loan for travelling to and from work
  • Defined contribution schemes for Pension
  • Loan schemes for bikes; computers and satellite navigation systems
