Job description

Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA) - Cardiac Surgery

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our team. The unit comprises 4 theatres performing approximately 1,000 adult Cardiac Cases and over 500 Thoracic cases annually. Opportunities also exist to work in the Theatre Recovery Area, Cardiology Labs, and Cardiac Intensive Care.

Qualifications and Experience:

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Ideally, previous theatre experience

Working Hours:

The core hours are between 07:30 and 19:00, Monday to Friday. The role involves participating in a 7-day, 24-hour emergency on-call service.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Working in the operating theatre as a circulating nurse, anticipating the needs of the scrub team.
2. Decontamination of equipment during working hours and as part of the on-call commitment.
3. Assisting in blood sampling.
4. Maintaining stock levels within the theatre environment and the entire department.
5. Participating in the on-call team and working independently during on-call commitments, such as in intensive care.
6. Collecting and checking trays of surgical instruments.

About the Unit:

The unit covers South Cumbria and Lancashire for specialist heart and lung surgery as a Tertiary centre. Our multidisciplinary team includes Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, and Perfusionists.
