About NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when including regional and national services.

Position Details

This is a permanent, part-time position of 29.7 hours per week, with a shift pattern from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please note that the salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must be First Level Registered Nurses with a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, hold a post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing, and have relevant post-registration experience as a PHN/Health Visitor.

Role Overview

Join North West Glasgow’s dedicated and innovative Locality Children’s Services Team as a Health Visitor. You will be responsible for delivering the Universal Pathway for children on your caseload. North West Locality features both affluent and deprived areas, benefiting from the support and diverse experiences available within the Glasgow City HSCP.

The Health Visitor is an autonomous practitioner practicing within the legal and ethical frameworks of the NMC and national legislation. You will oversee a health visiting caseload, ensuring quality care through assessments, referrals, communication, and evidence-based interventions. You will also delegate and review work within your team.

The caseload size will be determined locally using the national weight load measurement tool, based on the child population in your area. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to identify and address public health needs, supporting health improvement initiatives.

Skills and Responsibilities

You should have expertise in providing advice, parenting support, health promotion, education, psycho-social interventions, and immunizations. You will handle high-level interventions related to child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, peri-natal illnesses, and children with disabilities or life-limiting conditions. Additionally, you will provide reciprocal support for other caseloads to ensure continuous service delivery.
