Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join the Highways Connect Plus Services team. The role covers multiple M25 site offices with travel across the network; a company car is provided.

You will develop, implement and monitor health, safety and wellbeing processes, support the organisation’s safety ambition, and mentor HSW advisers across depots and sites. A strong leadership and field-ready compliance mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) is required.
• CSCS Card is required.
• Valid full-driving licence is required.
• Experience leading a team of HSW advisers.
• Ability to use MS Office and data platforms at an intermediate level.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day management and mentorship to HSW advisers.
• Champion HSW across the project and engage with operatives and managers.
• Oversee local implementation of organisational HSW standards.
• Monitor communications to keep HSW on the delivery agenda and report outcomes.
• Support delivery of HSW training based on project needs.
• Undertake targeted inspections and supply chain audits; track actions.
• Plan and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site teams.
• Prepare reports and presentations on inspection findings and actions.
• Represent Health, Safety & Well-being in calls and meetings.
• Review activities against safety systems and provide advisory actions.
• Lead and support incident investigations with corrective actions.

About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Highways Connect Plus Services team.

We have various site offices based around the M25 network, this role can be based from Blunts Farm, Dartford, Denham, Leatherhead, Scratchwood, South Mimms or Swanley. Travel throughout the network is also required, a company car is provided with the role.

The HSW Manager will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of
processes aimed at managing health, safety & well-being risks within the Project. The role will support the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible company regarding our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve.

Connect Plus Services (CPS) brings together the collective strength of our parent companies - Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people, based at eight locations across the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from routine maintenance to managing the whole-life requirement of thousands of assets across the network.

What you'll be doing

This role will be principally engaged in:

• Provide day to day management, guidance, support and mentoring to the other
  HSW advisors.
• Being a visible champion for HSW throughout the project engaging with
  Operatives and Managers
• Oversee the implementation of Organisational Standards relating to HSW at a
  local level providing feedbacking to the HSW Managers on any areas of
  improvement or potential conflict with business requirements
• Monitor the delivery of the communications strategy to keep HSW on the
  operational delivery agenda and report back to the HSW Managers on the
  levels of effective communication
• To support the delivery of appropriate and adequate HSW training based on
  Project needs
• Support/ undertake targeted inspections of HSW management system and
  supply chain audits, tracking & supporting actions to close out
• Managing own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and
  conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site & depot-based teams
• To prepare and communicate timely reports and presentations detailing
  performance data on inspection findings, tracking & supporting actions to close
  out
• To positively represent the Health, Safety & Well-being function and its strategy
  during conference calls and meetings
• To review work activities against safety system of work taking appropriate
  action and providing documented advice where necessary
• Lead and support incident investigations, ensuring incidents are dealt with
  effectively with actions tracked to close out

Who we're looking for

• Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH)
• Prior site-based construction experience
• Knowledge and experience of working in a Highways construction / maintenance environment
• Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General
  Certificate or equivalent)
• A current CSCS Card
• Clean, full driving license
• Experience managing a team of HSW Advisors
• Able to utilise a suite of Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms at an
  intermediate level to review data, identify themes and prepare representative
  graphs.

• Experience of working on a Joint Venture
