Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc seeks a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join the Highways Connect Plus Services team. The role supports HSW initiatives across the M25 network, with base options in Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms and regular travel.

You will champion HSW, oversee local standards, and drive training and audits to protect our people and supply chain. The position requires NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), a CSCS card, a clean driving licence, and the ability to work

Qualifications

• Must hold NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
• CSCS card is required.
• Clean driving licence required.
• Able to commit to regular night-time and weekend presence.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and digital platforms.
• Prior site-based construction experience required.

Responsibilities

• Champion HSW across the project and engage with operatives and managers.
• Oversee local implementation of Organisational Standards for HSW.
• Monitor communications to keep HSW on the delivery agenda and report on effectiveness.
• Support delivery of HSW training based on project needs.
• Manage closeout of H, S & W Don't Walk By incidents.
• Undertake targeted HSW inspections and supply chain audits; track actions.
• Schedule inspections and HSW conversations with site teams.
• Prepare timely reports and data visualisations on inspections and findings.
• Represent HSW strategy in calls and meetings.
• Review activities against the safety system of work and advise on actions.
• Assist incident investigations and track actions to close.

About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Highways Connect Plus Services team. We have various site offices based around the M25 network, this role can be based from Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms. Regular travel throughout the network is also required.

The HSW Advisor will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety & well-being risks within the Project. The role will support the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible company regarding our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve.

Connect Plus Services (CPS) brings together the collective strength of our parent companies - Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people, based at eight locations across the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from routine maintenance to managing the whole-life requirement of thousands of assets across the network.

What you'll be doing

This role will be principally engaged in:

• Being a visible champion for HSW throughout the project engaging with Operatives and Managers
• Oversee the implementation of Organisational Standards relating to HSW at a local level providing feedbacking to the HSW Managers on any areas of improvement or potential conflict with business requirements
• Monitor the delivery of the communications strategy to keep HSW on the operational delivery agenda and report back to the HSW Managers on the levels of effective communication
• To support the delivery of appropriate and adequate HSW training based on Project needs
• Monitor and manage closeout of H, S & W Don’t Walk By’s.
• Support/ undertake targeted inspections of HSW management system and supply chain audits, tracking & supporting actions to close out
• Managing own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site & depot-based teams
• To prepare and communicate timely reports and presentations detailing performance data on inspection/DWB findings, tracking and supporting actions to close out.
• To positively represent the Health, Safety & Well-being function and its strategy during conference calls and meetings
• To review work activities against safety system of work taking appropriate action and providing documented advice where necessary
• Support incident investigations, ensuring incidents are dealt with effectively with actions tracked to close out

Who we're looking for

• Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)
• A current CSCS Card
• Clean, full driving license
• Able to maintain a regular night-time and weekend presence
• Be able to utilise suite of Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms at an intermediate level to review data, identify themes and prepare representative graphs.
• Prior site-based construction experience

Desirable

• Experience of working on a Joint Venture
• Prior experience facilitating meetings via digital platforms e.g. Teams, Zoom, Skype etc
