Role Overview

This role is a key member of the Business Optimisation Management team, responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering safety improvements through projects and programmes to enhance health and safety performance across Logistics and Manufacturing (L&M). The job involves collaboration with colleagues across L&M and the SHE community to foster a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and LU SHE Management System requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain SHE compliance within all areas of L&M.
  2. Create and sign off on safe systems of work and risk assessments, including workplace, CoSHH, and manual handling assessments, ensuring ongoing compliance with legislation and standards.
  3. Provide specialist support to the L&M Management team regarding incident response and safety issues to promote zero injuries.
  4. Engage with operational staff, managers, and safety reps to ensure consistent safety management and encourage reporting and ownership of safety issues.
  5. Support the development and delivery of safety improvement projects aligned with TfL’s SHE vision, translating strategies into practical actions, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement through coaching and training.
  6. Review and report on SHE performance using metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and demonstrating value addition to the business.
  7. Represent L&M externally with regulators and stakeholders, contributing to TfL’s SHE vision.
  8. Advise on SHE management systems and deliver SHE training to meet regulatory and company standards.
  9. Collaborate with operational colleagues and Trade Unions to build ownership, compliance, and a positive safety culture, using coaching and mentoring to establish excellence in SHE management.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential: Knowledge of SHE legislation, standards, procedures; NEBOSH certificate or higher; strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills; practical experience in operational health and safety; willingness to hold Depot Area A and basic track awareness.

Desirable: Experience in rail, transport, warehousing, or manufacturing; knowledge of SHE techniques; familiarity with TfL SHE systems like CYPOL, IE2, Maximo; experience working in unionized environments and engaging with safety reps.
