Job description

Health & Safety Manager - Rail

Location: London, Wessex & Kent Region

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum + Car or Car Allowance

Are you an experienced Health and Safety Advisor feeling like your career has plateaued? Are you craving an opportunity to assume more responsibility as part of a growing organisation, with an exceptional pedigree for project delivery in the rail industry?

The Role

As Health and Safety Manager, you will be joining this established team to take responsibility for all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality management across critical projects and frameworks. This will be focussed upon 3 in particular within London, Wessex, Sussex and Kent regions.

You will engage with project delivery teams to ensure Safety Management Systems are being followed on site, undertaking site inspections, audits and producing reports. It is important for this organisation that HSQE management is not considered 'policing' activity; you must foster positive relationships with all teams promoting both procedural and behavioural safety.

The Health and Safety Manager will also ensure all policies, procedures and processes are under continual review to identify opportunities for improvements. You will of course be responsible for leading investigations for accidents / incidents.

'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure'... This is a role that requires proactive efforts to ensure safe systems of work exist, are practiced and owned by the whole organisation, to guarantee the health and wellbeing of all colleagues, sub-contractors, clients and the wider public during delivery of these projects.

The Company

With a long-term track record of successful project delivery and rapid growth, you will be confident of joining a business who will continue to play a lead role in key railway industry improvement programmes now and for the future. Operating as a Principal Contractor, this organisation has earned a respected reputation delivering a range of projects including station enhancements, bridge and earthworks renewals, disability access improvements and depot builds.

Crucially, this organisation is also recognised as being one of the best for developing its own team, with a key objective and plan for the successful candidate for this position to progress into a senior Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Management role.

Remuneration

Basic salary is subject to experience and up to £65k, and is accompanied with a car / car allowance to reflect the travel required within the role. Support is also provided to achieve and maintain professional memberships / status.

About You

This is a role suitable for an experienced Health and Safety professional looking for a broader and more diverse range of railway infrastructure projects. You must have prior experience in this sector and be familiar with the complexities and requirements for effective health and safety management delivering projects in an operational railway environment.

  1. This is a mobile role so will require your flexibility to travel to sites around the UK.
  2. Ideally, you will be CMIOSH qualified or working towards.
  3. Of key consideration is your character; the role demands a proactive, positive and engaging approach to Health and Safety to ensure all project stakeholders embrace ownership of safety on site.
