Job description

Astute’s Power Team is partnering with one of the UK’s largest Waste Management Companies. They are building a new Energy from Waste Power Station in Cheshire, which, when completed, will be capable of processing 600,000 tonnes of waste per year – enough energy to power 125,000 homes.

The Health & Safety Manager is an integral role on site. You will be responsible for shaping and maintaining the safety culture by ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and promoting a proactive approach to health, safety, and wellbeing.

Responsibilities and duties of the Health and Safety Manager role:
  1. Managing the site's Health & Safety communications.
  2. Developing and managing the risk assessment and accident reporting system.
  3. Liaising with external bodies.
  4. Monitoring the performance of the plant’s health & safety program and identifying opportunities to increase effectiveness.
  5. Carrying out on-site audits and investigations.
  6. Developing a strong H&S culture.
  7. Managing and updating the site’s H&S systems.
  8. Coordinating emergency response training.
  9. Providing H&S training for O&M staff.
Professional qualifications:

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

  • Ideally qualified with a NEBOSH Diploma at Level 6 or an NVQ 5 equivalent.
  • Graduate Membership of IOSH.
Personal skills:

The role would suit someone who has:

  • A strong background in Health and Safety gained in heavy process or engineering environments such as Power Generation, Refineries, Manufacturing, FMCG, Food, Petrochemical, etc.
  • At least five years of experience in a Health & Safety Management position.
  • Proven ability to influence, coach, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence.
