Job Title: Health & Safety Manager

Location: Barking, London / Hybrid

Job Type: Full time / Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri

Salary: £50,000 to £65,000 per annum

Department: Construction

Reports To: Operations Director

Job Summary:

To lead, manage and continuously improve the health and safety function across all operational sites and offices within the renewable energy business. This includes ensuring legal compliance, fostering a culture of safety, and proactively managing risks related to construction, electrical systems, and environmental impacts.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the company's HSE strategy, policies, and management systems in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and ensure all work is planned and executed safely.
  • Support project managers and site supervisors with site safety planning for renewable energy installations (solar, wind, battery storage).
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis; ensure timely reporting to relevant bodies (e.g. HSE, RIDDOR).
  • Deliver training, inductions, and toolbox talks across multiple sites and offices.
  • Carry out audits and inspections to ensure continuous improvement and compliance across all work environments.
  • Liaise with contractors and subcontractors to ensure their H&S processes meet company standards.
  • Monitor and report KPIs related to safety performance; produce board-level reports as required.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation, industry trends, and emerging technologies in renewable energy safety.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within construction, engineering, or renewable energy.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation (CDM Regs, RIDDOR, PUWER, LOLER, etc.).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 frameworks.
  • Strong ability to influence at all levels and build a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior team members.
  • Confident delivering training and engaging diverse operational teams.

Qualifications:

  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card
  • NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • TechIOSH or GradIOSH working towards Chartered status (preferred)
  • Environmental or Sustainability qualifications desirable
  • First Aid at Work and Manual Handling Trainer (advantageous)
