Health & Safety Manager – Groundworks at Galtec Ltd

The Opportunity
Join a respected groundworks contractor delivering major schemes across the South West and into South Wales. Based in Gloucester, you’ll set and uphold best-in-class safety standards across live sites stretching from Gloucester to Somerset and Swindon to Cardiff. Over the next 14 months you’ll shadow our current Head of Health & Safety—preparing to succeed them in leading the department.

The Role
Some key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental management on all groundworks projects
  • Collaborate with main contractors and project teams to ensure full compliance with HSE legislation
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Lead the development and implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and site safety plans
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by delivering training, guidance, and support to site teams
  • Report on safety performance and continuous improvement initiatives to senior management / directors
  • Shadow the current Head of Health & Safety over a 14-month period, with a clear path to succeeding them

About You
Some key requirements include:

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager in groundworks, civil engineering, or construction
  • In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations, HSE standards, and industry best practices
  • Comfortable liaising with main contractors and client stakeholders
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or equivalent) required
  • Proactive, approachable, and confident influencing teams on site
