Health & Safety Manager - Consumer goods

Our client is a major UK FMCG supplier creating and manufacturing high quality consumer products. Their story and growth trajectory is very impressive together with a very strong leadership team they continue to lead the categories in which they operate.

The operational structure has evolved massively over the last 5 years with considerable investment and state of the art manufacturing across the estate. A new role is available for a hands-on Health & Safety Manager to keep the business aware and compliant with all current and new legislation.

This role would really suit an individual who is passionate about Health & Safety and looking to grow with an organisation and forge a varied career for themselves.

Purpose of the role

  • Develop, maintain, and improve our health and safety management systems to ensure our internal standards are maintained at all times and strive to achieve World Class H&S performance across all operational sites.
  • Implement a safety improvement plan, including risk reduction activities, to maintain Zero LTI and work toward a Zero Accident culture.
  • Work with HR in development of a strategy to improve employee welfare and reduce absenteeism.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted within legal requirements.
  • Work with all Operational teams to deliver World Class H&S performance in line with business targets by engaging with all departments to deliver on targets.

Main accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Drive a culture of Safety-First behaviours in all aspects of your role.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety as a core value through your actions.
  • Adopt a never walk by policy in safety management and leadership.
  • Manage Health & Safety activities in line with Legal requirements and the company Management System.
  • Management of and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • The control and renewal of all certifications pertaining to H&S management.
  • Management of External & Internal Audits as required.
  • Management and control of the risk assessment process, liaising with Operations on SOPs/SSOWs.
  • Develop and implement H&S management strategy and plans, including resource, systems, timescales, and financials, to support, contribute to, and integrate within the organisation’s annual business plan and long-term strategy.
  • Monthly reports, action plans and communications to demonstrate progression in H&S. Ensure working practices conform to regulatory requirements to support registration, product development, and manufacture.
  • Support the operational teams to ensure the H&S controls are managed and live across site.
  • Establish and implement necessary communication strategy for the awareness of H&S issues across all departments. Liaise with Group H&S team ensuring that best practices and group standards are shared and implemented.
  • Subscribe to and contribute to a culture of continuous personal development. Work collectively with the main management team to achieve wider company goals. Project manage all improvement activities within the standard framework.

  • Incident Rates LTA, MTC, Near Miss.
  • Safety Observations.
  • Audit results pertaining to H&S management.
