We are recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager with extensive construction experience, a strong understanding of ISO 45001, risk assessment and contractor management on behalf of a leading Tier One Hard and Soft Landscape Contractor who are passionate about building a positive, people first safety culture, ensuring compliance through practical and collaborative solutions and are offering a salary of up to £70,000 which is negotiable based on experience.
As the Health & Safety Manager you will be travelling to sites across London, the South and Midlands regularly and will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with clients, construction managers and project teams to ensure alignment with health and safety objectives and performance management.
- The design and implementation of a robust safety program in line with current legislation and industry best practice.
- Conducting regular site audits and inspections, identifying non-conformances and executing corrective and preventative actions.
- Leading comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards and developing effective mitigation strategies.
- Managing incident investigations, determining root causes and developing recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Ensuring site compliance with health and safety legislation through the development and enforcement of safe working procedures.
- Supporting pre-qualification and tender processes by contributing health and safety expertise and documentation where required.
- Promoting a proactive safety culture through site engagement, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Leading site establishment activities, including the implementation of exclusion zones, signage, emergency protocols, permit systems and PPE standards.
- Managing SSIP accreditations and drafting policy and governance frameworks in alignment with ISO 45001 standards.
- Overseeing traffic management plans and emergency procedure coordination.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with construction managers and site teams to ensure alignment to SHEQ objectives.
- Championing continuous improvement initiatives, driving positive change across project teams and enhancing safety performance.
- Leading investigations into health, safety and environmental incidents in accordance with company policy ensuring prompt resolution, timely reporting and effective communication of lessons learned.
- Measuring occupational health and safety performance metrics and preparing detailed reports for stakeholders including proposed improvements to standard operating procedures.
- Managing health and safety at high-footfall public realm projects.
- Overseeing the integration of health and safety considerations into public art installations and heritage site restorations.

Requirements
To be considered as the Health and Safety Manager you will need:
- Experience as a Principal Contractor.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- CSCS Black Card / SMSTS.
- CERT IOSH.
- A good working knowledge of Constructionline and SSIP accreditation processes.
- Experience of producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- A good knowledge of Main Contractors / Developers.
- To be OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor trained.
- CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations).
- NVQ Assessor Qualifications including Level 2 to Level 7 Diplomas (Plant Operations to Senior Management).
- Face Fit Testing Trainer (Qualitative Testing).
- NPORS Excavator Operator Certification.
- Academically Qualified Person (AQP) CSCS card.
- Extensive construction and public realm safety management experience.
Benefits
