Health & Safety Manager

Location: Crowle

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum

Mon‑Thurs 8am – 4.30pm; Friday 7am – 1pm

Reporting to: Managing Director / Operations Director

Job Purpose

We are seeking a proactive and practical Health & Safety Manager to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance within our SME engineering business. The role will suit someone who can work independently, influence at all levels, and implement robust systems while maintaining a pragmatic, business‑focused approach. Relevant engineering industry experience is not essential. The company is part of a wider group, and the role will work closely with the Group Health & Safety Manager to ensure alignment with group standards and best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain the company's Health & Safety Management System
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Lead risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and COSHH assessments
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits and accident/near‑miss investigations
  • Provide competent advice and guidance to management and employees on health and safety matters
  • Deliver and coordinate health & safety training, inductions and toolbox talks
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation using digital systems
  • Support continuous improvement of safety culture across the business
  • Work closely with the Group Health & Safety Manager to align site practices with group policies and standards
  • Attend and contribute to monthly group health & safety meetings
  • Liaise with external bodies, regulators, insurers and auditors as required
  • Support and contribute to ISO 45001 compliance and continuous improvement activities
Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation
  • Computer literate with confidence using Microsoft Office and digital management systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH qualification (General Certificate or equivalent)
  • Experience working with or towards ISO 45001
  • Experience within an SME or manufacturing / engineering environment (not essential)
