About the Health and Safety Manager role:

To provide Health, Safety, and Environmental advice and guidance to ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards, including Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, ISO14001, and company policies. The goal is to foster an environment of empowered and engaged teams leading to a zero-harm workplace.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Drive a safety-first culture through effective engagement with all colleagues.
  • Create and implement site safety deployment plans.
  • Monitor and recommend improvements for the Group H&S Policy and advise employees accordingly.
  • Manage the ISO14001 Environmental Management System and ensure legal compliance.
  • Maintain all safety records and conduct accident investigations to prevent recurrence.
  • Stop unsafe plant, machinery, or activities.
  • Ensure compliance with risk assessments, control measures, hazardous substances management, workplace safety, and PPE protocols.
  • Establish emergency procedures and liaise with authorities and consultants.
  • Develop strategies to support a safety-focused culture and lead safety training initiatives.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Manage safety-related budgets and develop policies and procedures.
  • Promote HS&E initiatives and foster a positive safety culture.
  • Provide safety advice, liaise with safety representatives and enforcement authorities, and deliver safety training.
  • Present statistical safety data clearly and within deadlines.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience required:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety; studying towards a NEBOSH Diploma is preferred.
  • Experience as a Health & Safety Manager, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Experience managing ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and training skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in HSE.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to travel; valid driver’s license required.
