The role is working for our division Total Recycling, key service areas are recycling, hazardous waste, bulk tanker, general waste, and industrial services - although we also provide onsite facilities management to key customers. We operate our own fleet of purpose-built vehicles for collections, via our own transport department in Darlington.

The H&S Manager monitors adherence to the Site’s legal requirements and the Company’s in-house safety and compliance framework.

  • Undertaking health and safety inspections/audits.
  • Compiling weekly and monthly compliance reports for the Site’s Senior Management team.
  • Conducting health and safety training.
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the Site.

  • To monitor and audit compliance and effectiveness of the Site’s health and safety policies and procedures and the analysis of statistical information to ensure that robust health and safety management safeguards are established and enforced.
  • Effective delivery of training to all staff, risk assessment, manual handling, and the provision of information and training to ensure understanding and effective implementation of site policies and procedures.
  • To work with and liaise with the central SHEQ team, ensuring that information is collected and collated for hazard and near miss reporting, external and internal audits, and behavioural surveys. Ensure all relevant data is being collected and findings/trends are being presented to site management team.
  • To act as the site’s point of contact regarding fire prevention, including the investigation of fire incident reports, conducting fire drills, testing firefighting equipment, emergency escape lighting, and alarms.
  • Carry out contractor inductions and assist in the completion of on-site contractor monitoring reports.
  • To ensure vehicles, plant, and machinery exceed legislative requirements and monitor completion of statutory inspections.
  • Formally investigate accidents and incidents across the site and produce appropriate reports and recommendations for corrective action.

Requirements

Here’s what we require:

  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment, with an ability to propose new ways of working.
  • Candidate with a high level of knowledge on confined space works, breathing apparatus, high & ultra-high pressure water activities in complex/multi-hazard environments.
  • Level 5 City & Guilds in management of confined spaces is desirable.
  • Experience/knowledge in chemical/hazardous spill remediation, with a dynamic and pro-active approach in preparing teams for reactive high-risk scenarios.
  • Experience training personnel, able to translate regulatory requirements into safe working practices, and train others accordingly.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
