Job description

Job Title: Group Health/Safety & Environment Manager

Responsible To: Director with H&S, Managing Director, Chairman

Scope and Purpose of Job:

Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Safety Department, providing leadership to develop a safe working environment for all Vogal Group employees and visitors. This role involves strategic leadership for Health and Safety across all areas of the Vogal Group, ensuring compliance with current legislation, and promoting continuous improvement in safety management.

Develop and implement health and safety best practices, maintain ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001), and provide IOSH training. Collaborate with Directors and Managers to uphold safety policies and procedures, and ensure relevant documentation and policies are up-to-date and compliant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor, evaluate, and review legislation to ensure policies and systems meet legal requirements.
  2. Procure relevant H&S and environmental documentation.
  3. Liaise with HSE offices and EMAS for specialist advice.
  4. Conduct site visits, safety checks, audits, and behavioral safety discussions.
  5. Ensure targets are met by teams regarding audits and safety talks.
  6. Record and file safety talks, and ensure team compliance.
  7. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and preventative measures.
  8. Undertake roles under the CDM Regulations, including documentation and meetings.
  9. Advise on H&S implications for new work and support quality standards.
  10. Present safety performance and legislation updates to senior management.
  11. Participate in safety meetings with clients and communicate with H&S representatives.
  12. Maintain vendor assurance records for H&S and quality for subcontractors.
  13. Conduct in-house H&S training and mentor apprentices, managing the apprenticeship pipeline.
  14. Perform inductions for new employees and develop risk assessments and method statements.
