Job summary

IWFM is seeking a part-time Health & Safety professional for Basildon, working 3 days per week on-site. The role covers site safety, facilities standards, and regulatory compliance in a busy engineering and manufacturing setting.

You will lead all H&S and environmental compliance, develop policy, conduct risk assessments, maintain records, and drive a proactive safety culture across workshop and office areas. The position offers a pro-rata salary of £45k–£50k and flexible days.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on Health & Safety, Facilities, or site management experience.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• IOSH membership or similar recognition.
• Experience in SME environments and hands-on manufacturing contexts.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead on all health, safety, and environmental compliance across the business.
• Develop, implement, and maintain practical H&S policies and procedures in line with UK legislation.
• Carry out and review risk assessments, method statements, and site safety documentation.
• Keep accurate H&S records and ensure documentation is audit-ready.
• Support managers in promoting a proactive safety culture on the shop floor.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and standards across the site.
• Coordinate internal audits, inspections, and compliance checks to maintain high standards.
• Act as main contact for external inspections, insurers, auditors, and authorities.
• Maintain compliance registers including equipment checks, PPE, and training records.

Are you a hands–on facility and Health & Safety professional looking for a part–time role where you can make a real impact? This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of site safety, facilities standards, and compliance within a busy engineering and manufacturing environment.

Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will ensure the site remains safe, efficient, well maintained, and fully compliant. This role would suit someone who enjoys being visible on site, solving practical problems, improving systems, and creating a positive safety culture across both workshop and office areas.

Your new role:

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience in a Health & Safety, Facilities, or combined site management role.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• IOSH membership or similar professional recognition.
• Experience working in SME environments.
• Familiarity with engineering processes, workshop operations, or hands–on manufacturing environments.
• Experience within engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or workshop–based environments would be highly beneficial.
• Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
• Confident in carrying out risk assessments and implementing practical H&S systems.
