Job Description:

  • About the role
  • Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Delivery of ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
  • Ownership of company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed.
  • Responsible for delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety & Risk, promoting positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
  • Leading relationships and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in the business's safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations).
  • Ensuring incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation as needed, and liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media.

About you
  • At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
  • Auditing qualifications and experience
  • Environmental Risk qualifications
  • Extensive Accident Investigation experience, including root cause analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to influence at senior levels
  • A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
