About the role

  • Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Implementing ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Acting as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
  • Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
  • Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
  • Maintaining positive relationships and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in the business's safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations).
  • Ensuring all incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation based on severity, and liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media.

About you

  • Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
  • Auditing qualifications and experience
  • Environmental risk qualifications
  • Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
  • A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
