About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Delivery of ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Subject Matter Expert on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture for Smiths News, covering all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Ownership of company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place and managed.
• Delivery of Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and embed a just safety culture.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, local authorities, trade bodies).
• Ensure incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation as appropriate, and liaise with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media.

About you

• At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated management systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental risk qualifications
• Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
