Job summary

Freedom Networks, part of the NG Bailey Group, is seeking a proactive SHEQ Advisor for the Inverness region to support project teams and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.

The role reports to the regional Health & Safety Manager and focuses on inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous improvement to deliver safe, sustainable, and high-quality operations.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate is required.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to influence and support operational teams in achieving SHEQ objectives.
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure SHEQ compliance.
• Monitor operations for SHEQ adherence and escalate findings.
• Promote a positive health and safety culture across the organisation.
• Provide practical SHEQ support to project teams.
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Lead accident and incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with Group SHEQ to align standards and practices.
• Attend client SHEQ meetings and share outcomes and lessons learned.
• Monitor contractor performance against SHEQ requirements.
• Engage in CPD to maintain expertise.
• Collaborate with central SHEQ to tackle challenges and improvements.
• Contribute to development of the SHEQ Management System.

Your Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive SHEQ Advisor to join our dynamic team in the Inverness region. Reporting to the regional Health & Safety Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting our operational teams and ensuring compliance with our Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards across various projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with SHEQ policies and procedures.
• Monitor operational activities for SHEQ compliance, escalating significant findings as necessary.
• Promote and cultivate a positive health and safety culture throughout the organization.
• Provide practical SHEQ advice and support to project and operational teams.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Liaise with the Group SHEQ team to maintain consistency of standards and best practices.
• Attend and present at client SHEQ meetings, sharing key outcomes and lessons learned.
• Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements.
• Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance your expertise.
• Collaborate with central SHEQ teams to tackle specific business challenges and improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the SHEQ Management System.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

Essential Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate.
• Strong understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to influence and support operational teams in achieving SHEQ objectives.
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications

• Knowledge of HSG47 and underground utility avoidance.
• Experience in environmental management.
• Background in the electrical utilities sector.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
• NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety.
• IOSH Membership (Chartered or working towards Chartered status).
• Environmental qualification, such as the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate.
