Job summary

Refresco in Nelson, England, is seeking a hands-on HSE Manager to turn strategy into results on the factory floor and drive a strong safety culture across the site.

The HSE roadmap is in place; you will lead the site's HSE improvement agenda, ensuring compliance and strengthening management systems while liaising with regulators such as the Environment Agency.

You will influence the leadership and operations teams to deliver measurable improvements and promote best practice across Refresco UK.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years in an HSE Officer or similar role within busy manufacturing/engineering environments.
  • Proven track record of empowering others to achieve excellent HSE performance through effective safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve site HSE systems and compliance.
  • Provide practical HSE guidance and support to managers and employees.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through audits, risk assessments and safety initiatives.
  • Lead incident investigations and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage HSE reporting, KPIs, audits, emergency preparedness and PPE compliance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands‑on HSE Manager who enjoys turning strategy into results. The HSE roadmap is already in place – Refresco needs someone who can get out onto the factory floor, work alongside operational teams, influence behaviours, and drive a strong safety culture across the Nelson site. You'll lead the site's HSE improvement agenda, ensuring compliance, strengthening management systems, engaging with regulators including the Environment Agency, and partnering with both the leadership and operations teams to deliver measurable improvements.

About the Role:

The HSE Managerwill provide full support to the operations team to ensureleadership and management of the safety programme with the utlimate aim of delivering the UK’s HSE improvement agenda. To drive a consistent approach across all HSE activities on the Refresco site. Driving forward the HSE management systems by influencing the management team, whilst working with the operations team to ensure compliance. To liaise with other HSE Expert teams and the Head of Health, Safety and Enviroment for the UK to ensure consistency and best practise between sites. You will be required to compile complaince reports and laise with regulators such as the Enviromental Agency

As the HSE Manager here are your key areas of focus:

  • Support and improve site Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) systems and compliance.
  • Provide practical HSE guidance and support to managers and employees.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through audits, risk assessments and safety initiatives.
  • Lead incident investigations and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage HSE reporting, KPIs, audits, emergency preparedness and PPE compliance.
  • Work with site teams and HR to support environmental and occupational health objectives

We’re looking for:

The ideal candidate will have a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), a minimum of five years' experience in an HSE Officer or similar role within a busy manufacturing or engineering environment, and a proven track record of empowering others to achieve excellent HSE performance through the design and implementation of effective safety initiatives across both blue- and white-collar workforce
