Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

About the Opportunity

Our Nuclear Power Engineering & Technical Solutions (NPETS) business provides engineering and technical solutions across the full nuclear lifecycle up to decommissioning, evolving our credibility as new reactor technologies come to market - creating the UK’s most compelling Engineering & Technical solutions provider across all reactor types to contribute to the world’s global climate change challenge.

Jacobs are recruiting for an experienced Health and Safety Engineer to join our NPETS team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will predominantly be based at EDF's Dungeness B location.

Since 1983, Dungeness B has generated low carbon electricity for 38.2 million homes and was the first Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor to begin construction in the UK. The station is now at a new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds, and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. Working for Jacobs at Dungeness B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment, with potential future opportunities in nuclear new build or decommissioning and deconstruction.

Key responsibilities will be:
  1. HSE Engineers are accountable to provide positive leadership on HSE matters within the Portfolio Project Teams and promote best practices, fostering an enthusiastic HSE culture that delivers positive commitment and engages all employees in continuous improvement in HSE performance.
  2. The HSE Engineer will monitor and report on the effectiveness of the HSE Management system and progress against HSE Performance Standards, making recommendations for improvement as appropriate. The HSE Engineer is accountable to the client PPM or equivalent Group Head, with functional responsibilities to the client HSE Lead. This role has no direct reports.
  3. The role will be based at EDF Dungeness B and may require occasional business travel to UK sites/stations. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, but the role will predominantly be based at the Power Station. You will report to the Jacobs Operations Manager but be accountable for project delivery directly to the client.
  4. Everyone in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
  5. Good communication and organizational skills are essential, with the ability to develop relationships, maintain effective networks, and be results-focused while maintaining a team-centered approach.
Here's What You'll Need:
  • HNC in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent.
  • Current qualification/knowledge of the CDM Regulations.
  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 3.
  • Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) desirable.
  • IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.
  • Operational knowledge of current HSE legislation related to project work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to develop networks and working relationships with other groups involved in project delivery.
  • Relevant experience working as an HSE Professional in a project context, including experience in highly regulated, operational environments.
  • Experience managing contractors and conducting accident investigations and reporting.
