Job summary

Dudley Zoo & Castle is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to manage health and safety across the site. The role is four days per week and may involve some weekend and bank holiday work.

The ideal candidate will bring NEBOSH General Certificate, prior health & safety experience, and strong organisational skills to drive safe working practices among staff and contractors.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate is essential.
• Experience in a similar health & safety role is required.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Zoo Licensing Act.
• Ensure compliance with relevant HSE legislation.
• Develop, promote and implement safe systems of work across the site.
• Compile, maintain and update risk assessments and health & safety policies.
• Maintain health and safety records (e.g., Legionella and Asbestos reports).
• Carry out site audits and chair internal health and safety meetings.
• Educate and support staff to embed safe working practices.
• Collaborate with managers, employees, contractors and external visitors to ensure best practice.

Job description

Dudley Zoo & Castle, a leading Black Country visitor attraction, is looking to recruit a Health & Safety Coordinator who will be responsible for Health and Safety at the zoo. The role is a 4 days per week and may include some weekend and bank holiday working.

Roles & responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Zoo Licensing Act
• Ensure we are compliant with all relevant HSE legislation
• Developing, promoting and implementing safe systems of work across the site
• Compiling, maintaining and updating risk assessments and health and safety policies
• Maintaining all health and safety records such as Legionella and Asbestos reports
• Carrying out site audits
• Chairing internal health and safety meetings and educating and supporting staff to embed safe working practises into their daily roles
• Working collaboratively with managers, employees, contractors and external visitors to ensure best practise is followed
• Monitoring hot work and electrical permits as required

About You

We are looking for a motivated and confident professional who can bring both technical understanding and strong people skills to the role. You will need to be a strong communicator, a logical thinker, and someone who can influence positively across all levels of the organisation

Ideally you will have

• NEBOSH General Certificate
• Previous experience in a similar health & safety role
• Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks

This is a part time position of 4 days per week and ideally suited to someone looking to reduce their current working hours. A flexible work pattern may be available if required.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
