Job Description: As a result of continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Health and Safety auditor to carry out regular on-site audits across our nationwide, transport, warehouse and workshop operations, reviewing compliance to regulatory and internal standards. You will be based at our main Cullompton offices and report to the Internal Audit Manager. You will work closely with regional health and safety officers, site operational teams and management to review the safety culture of our operations, whilst championing the Group's internal 'Safety First' branding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting comprehensive health and safety audits across the Group's nationwide sites, including transport hubs, warehouses, and vehicle workshops.
  • Interviewing personnel at all levels to assess their understanding of health and safety regulations and internal policies.
  • Performing visual safety inspections aligned with best practices and safe working procedures.
  • Auditing key compliance areas through documentation and on-site reviews, including:
  • Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Accident and Incident Reporting
  • Fire Safety Protocols
  • Property and Facilities Management
  • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
  • Visitor and Contractor Management
  • Safe use of MHE, particularly lift trucks during loading/unloading
  • Warehouse Racking Systems
  • Vehicle Workshop Pit Safety
  • Leading post-audit debriefs with senior management to highlight findings and recommend improvements.
  • Producing clear, actionable audit reports and developing risk mitigation plans.
  • Managing audit action plans through to resolution within agreed timeframes.
  • Providing hands-on support and training to operational teams to enhance safety awareness and compliance.
  • Influencing key stakeholders, including General and Depot Managers, to adopt and embed safe working practices.
  • Analysing audit data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Taking full ownership of audit assignments from planning to reporting, in line with the annual audit schedule.
  • Supporting the Audit Manager in delivering the Group's internal audit plan and promoting best practice.
  • Identifying and recommending updates to internal policies in response to legislative changes.
  • Building strong working relationships across the Group to champion our 'Safety First' culture.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a health and safety auditing role within distribution and warehousing environments.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical application.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate (essential).
  • IIA qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience in developing and executing audit plans.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify actionable insights.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
  • Self-motivation, resilience, and adaptability to change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Familiarity with the Intelex health and safety management system (desirable).
