A leading company specializing in highway infrastructure is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will manage health and safety processes across projects while providing guidance and support to HSW Advisors. This hybrid role requires effective communication and strong leadership skills, and offers flexibility with work locations.
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Connect Plus Services (CPS) team. This role can be based at South Mimms, Dartford, or Leatherhead and will involve regular travel across the M25 network. A company car or allowance is provided.
CPS is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, AtkinsRéalis, and Egis. We operate and maintain the M25, the busiest motorway in Europe. Careful, efficient planning is vital to deliver over £100m of annual investment in the highway infrastructure, in addition to ongoing maintenance.
The purpose of this role is to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety, and wellbeing risks across the project. This position underpins our commitment to being a safe and responsible business—for our people, supply chain partners, and the communities we serve.
This role will primarily involve:
Providing day-to-day management, guidance, support, and mentoring to HSW Advisors
Acting as a visible champion for HSW, engaging with operatives and managers
Overseeing implementation of organisational HSW standards locally and feeding back to HSW Managers on improvements or conflicts
Monitoring the delivery of the communications strategy and reporting on effectiveness
Supporting the delivery of HSW training aligned to project needs
Conducting targeted HSW inspections and supply chain audits, ensuring timely action
Managing your diary and stakeholder engagement to plan site visits and HSW conversations
Preparing and presenting reports on inspection findings and tracking follow-up actions
Representing the HSW function during meetings and calls
Reviewing work activities against safety systems and providing documented advice
Leading and supporting incident investigations and ensuring effective resolution
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH)
Professional health and safety qualification (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)
A valid CSCS card
A clean, full UK driving licence
Experience managing a team of HSW Advisors
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital platforms for data analysis and presentation
Site-based construction experience
Experience in highways construction/maintenance
Previous experience working within a joint venture environment

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we offer flexible working where you will typically be working from your base CPS office, Leatherhead, Dartford or South Mimms up to three days per week and two days from home.
