Overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager (Maternity Cover) to join our large retail site in Cross Hands. This role provides both operational and strategic support to the site leadership team on all matters related to health, safety, and environmental wellbeing, ensuring the site meets its corporate objectives. The role reports directly to the Site Director, with a dotted line to the Head of Health & Safety UK.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice on health, safety, and fire legislation.
  • Support management in achieving health, safety, and environmental KPIs and performance objectives.
  • Collaborate with Line Managers to conduct risk assessments and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement site-specific safe working practices.
  • Conduct specialist risk assessments such as Manual Handling, COSHH, Fire, and DSE.
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Analyze training needs and maintain training records, ensuring refresher courses are completed.
  • Monitor emergency procedures and fire safety arrangements, ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Perform monthly site inspections, report findings, and recommend improvements.
  • Deliver health and safety training programs as needed.
  • Report RIDDOR incidents to HSE, respond to correspondence, and follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate health & safety committee meetings.
  • Maintain accurate accident data, analyze trends, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure health & safety documentation is prepared and maintained for inspections.
  • Assist insurers with civil claims information.
  • Identify first aid training needs and ensure supplies are sufficient.
  • Support statutory inspections and PPM programs to ensure machinery safety.
  • Monitor contractors and permit to work systems for high-risk activities.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and address any issues.
  • Prepare for ISO Environmental audits and Environmental Agency inspections.
Qualifications

  • Minimum three years' experience as a Health & Safety Manager, preferably in Food Manufacturing.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong commercial understanding of business risk management.
  • Effective negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports and handle numerical data.
