Job description

Role: Health, Safety and Environment Manager

Company: Fast Paced and Complex Manufacturing Company

Salary: up to £65,000 per annum, DOE, £5,500 car allowance, bonus, PHC and 25 days holiday.

Location: Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire

Are you a passionate, engaging, and proactive Health, Safety and Environmental Professional and a genuine leader? Do you want to influence, develop, and improve safety standards, drive cultural and behavioral improvements across a fast-paced manufacturing site? If so, this is the job for you!

Due to recent and significant upcoming investment, we are seeking a strong Health, Safety and Environment professional to sit within the senior leadership team, drive safety excellence, and manage 3 direct reports. Reporting directly to the Head of HSE with a dotted line to the Site Plant Manager.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Be the on-site expert, able to handle complex situations, take ownership of outcomes, and deliver results both as a leader and individual contributor.
  • Facilitate change and participate in diverse projects to improve safety and behaviors at the site, dealing with technical complexities.
  • Play a key role in upcoming strategic and investment projects at the site.
  • Support the implementation of company HSE policies and embed ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards.
  • Conduct risk profiling and management based on site assessments, including fire safety, machinery safety, DSEAR, and maintenance.
  • Engage, communicate, and be visible on the shop floor to promote improvements in health, safety, environment, behaviors, and culture.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure legal compliance in operations and projects, especially during strategic changes and growth initiatives.
  • Build capabilities through coaching and engagement to foster a positive safety culture at all levels.
  • Track HSE performance indicators and compliance data, develop annual strategic plans for continuous improvement, and ensure legal compliance.
  • Prioritize key loss opportunities, manage HSE and facilities budgets, and oversee capital allocations.
  • Take initiative, demonstrate energy, and influence as a member of the leadership team, handling complex situations as a site expert and leader.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced service providers, regulatory bodies, customers, and auditors regarding safety and environmental management.
  • Collaborate proactively with internal and external project managers and contractors.
  • Serve as a key member of the site leadership team and regional HSE team in the UK.
  • Support HR & Training functions and Occupational Health initiatives.
  • Maintain daily contact with operational colleagues.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong manufacturing experience, preferably in food, drink, dairy, paper, packaging, bakery, or tobacco industries.
  • Proven management experience with coaching and mentoring skills.
