Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Leiston, UK, is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to support Sizewell C and the Civil Works Alliance by ensuring compliance with HSW objectives across pre-construction, construction and post-construction phases.

You will conduct inspections, assist with risk assessments and help implement the Safety Management System, with flexible smart working where possible.

  • Experience as Health and Safety Advisor with relevant construction-related or transferable skills

Responsibilities

  • Undertake Health and Safety compliance inspections, tours and audits.
  • Identify and rank risk associated with CWA work activities.
  • Prepare fact-driven reports from inspections, tours, audits and investigations.
  • Support implementation of Sizewell C and CWA SMS.
  • Build relationships with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Assist work planning to evaluate and address potential risks.

About the role

Be part of this 'once in a generation' project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke.

What you'll be doing

To support the operational teams to deliver and comply with the project and CWA HSW objectives and goals throughout the pre-construction, construction and post construction process, ensuring all legal obligations are met.

Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
  • Undertake Health and Safety compliance inspections, tours and audits to satisfy the monthly HSW Assurance Plan, the HSW Manager, or as requested by the CWA in response to emerging risks.
  • Able to identify and rank risk associated with CWA work activities.
  • Able to prepare fact driven reports following inspections, tours, audits and investigations.
  • Support the implementation of and ensure compliance with the Sizewell C (SZC) project standards and the CWA Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Able to build relationships with the CWA project teams and wider interested stakeholders.
  • Support project teams during work planning to evaluate and address potential risks.

  • Has previously experience in a Health and Safety Advisor role with relevant constructed related or transferable skills.
