Health & Safety Advisor – Construction Interiors Contractor

Salary: c£45k - £55k Dependent on Experience

My client specializes in Commercial construction projects, predominantly Interior Fit-Out & Refurbishment, working with blue-chip clients in the public and private sectors to create workplaces and environments that enhance their clients' business processes.

The Health & Safety Advisor Role

This role offers a wide range of support to site teams, suppliers, and colleagues regarding all aspects of Health & Safety. It is instrumental in maintaining an exceptional safety record. Working alongside the HSE Manager, the position provides real growth potential and a significant impact on project delivery. Ideally, candidates will have experience in health and safety within the construction industry, including fit-out and built environment experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, review, and update project and company risk assessments.
  2. Attend sites to conduct and issue regular health and safety audits.
  3. Review construction phase plans and compliance documentation for pre-contract and post-contract submissions.
  4. Provide health and safety advice directly to clients as needed.
  5. Advise subcontractors on the suitability of their RAMS / SSOWs and ensure approval through regular audits.
  6. Assist the SHE Manager in setting H&S targets and objectives.
  7. Implement and evaluate behavioral safety initiatives to ensure alignment with business operations.
  8. Support the annual submission for the RoSPA safety award.
  9. Investigate accidents and incidents as required, developing investigation reports.
  10. Construct and deliver high-quality reports related to accidents and incidents.
  11. Liaise with HSE / Enforcing Authorities if required.
  12. Assist the Compliance Manager with bi-annual ISO re-audits.

Candidate Requirements

  • NEBOSH Construction Qualification.
  • Experience in health and safety within the construction industry, including fit-out and built environment sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of current CDM Regulations.
  • Knowledge of temporary works procedures and asbestos management.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation, risk management, and health and safety issues.
  • Experience advising on design risk avoidance and ongoing risk management.
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to produce clear, high-quality reports.
  • Excellent planning, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Resilience and confidence in confrontational situations.
  • Ability to handle workload fluctuations effectively.
