Responsibilities

1. Supporting and deputising for the Health Safety Business Partner with implementation / management of MAG priorities.
2. Providing managers and colleagues with comprehensive end-to-end advice and support to ensure the effective implementation of Safety Management Systems.
3. Ensuring stakeholders understand and are compliant with MAG standards, including safe working, safe places and equipment, and welfare arrangements.
4. Developing an in-depth understanding of airport operations, including operational challenges, changes, stakeholder relationships, safety cultures, and colleagues' attitudes to H&S. Managing H&S risks and supporting the delivery and adoption of Manchester's safety management system.
5. Supporting the development and delivery of Safety Improvement Plans (SIP).
6. Supporting the development and delivery of H&S communications across business areas, including annual safety campaigns and events.
7. Supporting change management programmes by advising managers and ensuring all system actions are completed following changes.
8. Developing your Health and Safety career in this dynamic safety environment.

Success Factors

The successful candidate will be able to provide advice on low-risk incidents and escalate any foreseen risks to the H&S Business Partners or Head of Health Safety & Fire Safety. The role requires influencing others, including managers, colleagues, and trade union representatives, to develop a best practice working environment. Responsibilities also include investigating safety-related incidents, supporting the production of reports with conclusions and recommendations, and leading the implementation of remedial actions.

About You

You will have achieved at least a National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). Ideally, you will have around 5 years of H&S experience in a fast-paced operational environment, with a good understanding of culture, challenges, and constraints. Experience in compliance, advice, assurance, and auditing techniques is essential. Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (at a relevant level) is required. It is also preferable to hold or be working towards a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
