Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor

Location: Manchester

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000

The Client: Our client is an interior fit-out and refurbishment construction business with extensive experience in delivering commercial office refurbishments. They are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join their team.

The Role of Health & Safety Advisor: The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for ensuring our client has a safe and compliant work environment at all times by actively maintaining health and safety standards and minimising risks through regular audits, updating risk assessments, and providing comprehensive health and safety support and advice to all stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring and reporting against the Company Safety Management System.
  2. Assisting in ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements.
  3. Developing, reviewing, and updating project and company risk assessments.
  4. Attending sites and carrying out regular health and safety audits (i-Audits).
  5. Reviewing construction phase plans and associated compliance documentation for pre-contract and post-contract submission.
  6. Providing health and safety advice and support to the pre-contracts team, subcontractors (where necessary), and delivery teams.
  7. Coaching and assisting the Design team in their ongoing compliance with the CDM Regulations (design risk avoidance).
  8. Advising subcontractors on the suitability of their RAMS / SSOWs and ensuring the completion of the approval process through regular audits.
  9. Assisting the SHE Manager in setting Company H&S targets and objectives.
  10. Supporting the annual submission for the RoSPA safety award entry.
  11. Constructing and delivering high-quality reports in relation to accidents and incidents (as required).
  12. Issuing monthly accident and incident statistics to the Delivery Team and Board members using the H&S Dashboard.
  13. Assisting Compliance Manager with ISO re-audits (bi-annually).
  14. Completion of Site Waste Plans for projects.
  15. Supporting Compliance Manager in the issuing and review of pre-qualification questionnaires to ensure the supply chain meets regulatory and company standards prior to carrying out any work on behalf of our client.

Requirements:

  1. NEBOSH Construction Qualification is essential.
  2. Background experience in health and safety within the construction industry, including fit-out and built environment experience.
  3. High degree of knowledge and understanding of the current CDM Regulations.
  4. Good knowledge of safe access systems (knowledge and experience of tube and fit and mobile tower scaffolding essential).
  5. Experience of advising on asbestos management.
  6. Up-to-date knowledge of technical developments in legislation and in risk management / health and safety issues.
  7. Experience in providing advice and support to businesses in design risk avoidance & ongoing risk management.
  8. Interest in providing advice and support to the Pre-con team to assist with tenders and gathering pre-construction information.
  9. Ability to produce clear, high-quality verbal and written reports.
  10. Ability to plan and manage time/tasks/priorities to tight deadlines.
  11. Able to show knowledge, resilience, and confidence in confrontational situations.
  12. Able to cope with peaks and troughs in workload.
  13. Comfortable using a conciliatory and relationship-building approach to progress cultural change.
