Job Opportunity: Health & Safety Advisor in Islington, London

Our client, a leading Building and Civil Engineering contractor based in Northern Ireland, is seeking an experienced and ambitious Health & Safety Advisor to join a large-scale RC Frame project in Islington, London.

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Role Overview

The Health & Safety Advisor reports directly to the SHEQ Director, liaising with the Project Manager and site team. The role involves advising on overall compliance with health and safety regulations, leading by example, and ensuring high safety standards across the site.

Principal Duties

1. Conduct regular site audits and inspections as per the Safety Management System.
2. Maintain records of statutory inspections for all activities and equipment.
3. Handle statutory notifications and incident reporting to the Health & Safety Authority, including site visits.
4. Deliver health and safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
5. Manage Personal Protective Equipment requirements and make recommendations.
6. Assist in compiling cost records related to health and safety issues.
7. Organize and chair safety meetings with clients and subcontractors.
8. Review subcontractor safety statements and method statements, and assist in drafting method statements.
9. Update and communicate site Emergency Plans.
10. Investigate accidents, handle statutory notifications, and keep the SHEQ Director and Site Manager informed.
11. Ensure First Aid provisions are adequate and certifications are up to date.
12. Contribute to the Safety File for project handover.

Skills and Qualifications

• NEBOSH Health and Safety Certificate, Diploma, or Degree is essential.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in construction safety management.
• Experience managing safety on large-scale construction projects.
• Strong communication, leadership, training, and presentation skills.

This role offers valuable experience with a UK-wide contractor on a multi-million-pound project. Candidates must be committed to a site-based role.
