Job summary

Shirley Parsons Ltd is recruiting a Health & Safety Advisor for a flagship construction project in Bridgwater, Somerset. This site-based role focuses on supporting delivery teams to uphold high standards of health, safety and compliance throughout the construction lifecycle.

You will lead inspections, audits and toolbox talks, review risk assessments, and drive a positive safety culture through strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
• Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation
• Full UK driving licence
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to influence personnel at all levels

Responsibilities

• Providing proactive health & safety support to site management teams.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading main contractor on a major construction project in Bridgwater, Somerset.

This is a site-based role supporting the delivery of a high-profile project, working closely with operational teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance are maintained throughout the construction lifecycle.

The Role

Reporting into the Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Providing proactive health & safety support to site management teams.
• Conducting site inspections, audits, and safety tours.
• Ensuring compliance with current HSE legislation and company procedures.
• Supporting investigations into incidents, near misses, and accidents.
• Delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings, and workforce engagement activities.
• Reviewing risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
• Building strong relationships with subcontractors and site teams to drive a positive safety culture.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a Health & Safety Advisor position within construction, civil engineering, or major project environments.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent as a minimum.
• Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence and engage personnel at all levels.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
• Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH/GradIOSH).
• Experience working for a main contractor on large-scale construction projects.
