Job description

We’re looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Health & Safety Advisor to join our night shift team at B&M’s Fort Distribution Centre in Bedford, reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone currently in a Health & Safety administrative or similar role who’s ready to take the next step in their H&S career within a fast-paced retail logistics environment.

The key responsibilities are:

• Investigating and recording incidents, accidents, complaints, and cases of ill health.
• Supporting the wider H&S team with information and documentation gathering for authority or civil cases.
• Undertaking site inspections and risk assessments as directed.
• Ensuring equipment is installed and maintained safely and correctly, in line with relevant processes.
• Identifying hazards, observing working practices, and recommending corrective measures.
• Determining practical ways to reduce risks.
• Assisting with the creation and review of internal Health & Safety policies and strategies.
• Maintaining accurate data capture processes and compiling regular reports and statistics.
• Developing and implementing safe working practices.
• Producing reports, bulletins, and internal communications.
• Delivering presentations and briefings to staff and managers.
• Supporting the organisation of Health & Safety meetings and training sessions.
• Assisting the H&S Manager with communication and liaison with relevant authorities.
• Keeping up to date with current Health & Safety legislation and ensuring ongoing compliance.
• Always acting as a visible and approachable H&S ambassador on site.

What we’re looking for:

• Ideally, you’ll currently be in a Health & Safety Admin role or similar, looking to develop further in the field. You’ll have a passion and understanding of Health & Safety, with the drive to promote a positive safety culture.
• Ideally IOSH or NEBOSH qualified, or willing to work towards.
• Competent IT skills, with confidence using Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, operational environment.
• A strong customer service focus and the ability to multi-task effectively.
• Excellent time management and communication skills – both written and verbal.
