Qualifications

  • City and Guilds or equivalent in Radiation Safety Practice required.
  • Evidence of working in a radiological environment necessary.
  • Good knowledge of IRR's required.

Description of the assignment

Location: Caithness, Scotland


Salary: £30,084 - £39,962 (DOE)


We are seeking dedicated and skilled Health Physics Surveyors (up to 6) to join our team here at NUVIA.


About the Role


  • Function and source checking various types of radiation protection instrumentation.
  • To carry out radiological monitoring within nuclear facilities, ensuring that all readings are accurately measured and recorded.
  • Counting and assessing air samples from various designations.
  • Advising to working party on radiological conditions and maintaining the principles of ALARP.
  • Monitoring in high hazard environments including designations Supervised areas, R2, R3, R4 / C0, C2, C3, C4.
  • Ensuring that all permits are complied with and point of work safety assessments are completed.
  • Set up, maintenance and de-classification of radiation and contamination-controlled areas.
  • Maintaining safety and compliance under the site licence conditions, Ionising Radiation regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations, and Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Applying to appropriate control methods when handling activated, or contaminated items.
  • Carrying out radiological monitoring as part of an event or emergency.
  • Training and mentoring of new recruits in full range of HP Surveyor duties.
  • Reporting to Health Physics Charge Hand / Supervisor / Site Manager / Package Manager.


Occupational Skills and Qualifications


  • City and Guilds in Radiation Safety Practice – stage 1 or equivalent.
  • NVQ 2 – Radiation Protection.
  • Level 5 Health Physics monitoring (NDA).
  • Level 3 Health Physics monitoring (EDF).
  • A good working knowledge of the IRR’s.
  • Evidence of working within a radiological environment.
