Contract: Perm & Full Time

Location: Nottingham Support Office, with some UK travel

About the role

This role will be critical in supporting the role Boots Opticians plays in the optical sector as we transform business systems and processes to unlock value. As the NHS and regulatory landscapes change and technology advances, the need to assess and devise delivery programmes to implement the changes must be developed.

This role reports to the Head of Optical Development and will be responsible for leading our insight into and knowledge of the external regulatory and governmental environment to help inform immediate and long-term plans, so that we can influence key decisions in relation to our clinical strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Build strong external networks, identifying risks and opportunities in the external environment
  • Provide the insight to allow influencing and lobbying of regulatory bodies & the NHS where appropriate to protect and enhance the profession. This is including but not limited to FODO, ABDO, College of Optometrists, GOC, NHS England, AOP and OSA
  • Work closely with our wider internal healthcare community and Public Affairs team to create joined up Boots messaging
  • Partner with colleagues with external roles and influence across Boots Opticians to create the joined up insight that will make us successful in a transforming industry, working closely with the Professional Services team
  • Seek out opportunities to maximise new development with the NHS and across all of Boots
  • Develop our industry transformation roadmap, providing key activity milestones directly linked to NHS and regulatory changes
  • Work closely with IT as the NHS Digital and Interconnectivity agendas evolve
  • Provide insight into OFNC and GOS impacts

What you'll need to have

  • Either a background in healthcare policy or extensive optical regulatory / membership bodies experience is essential
  • Qualified clinician registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) an advantage
  • A vast knowledge of the regulatory, membership body and NHS ecosystem including GOS an advantage
  • There will be a requirement to travel UK wide
  • Comfortable taking the lead and able to think strategically
  • Ability to manage difficult and complex situations and conversations whilst remaining calm and composed
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to influence and develop positive stakeholder relationships
  • Proven history of embedding and transforming strategies and initiatives within a similar organisation.
